HiBY R3 II (2024)

HiBY R3 II (2024)

What’s better than a HiFi player? One with a frosted glass back that glows like an icy masterpiece. I replaced the original back panel with a custom one that makes the scroll wheel visible and amplifies the LED status light into a full-blown light show.

For the pièce de résistance, I snuck in an ESP32-S3 with a rewritable NFC tag. The idea? Share your favorite track with a tap of your phone. It’s a little finicky—okay, very finicky—but hey, who doesn’t love a tech experiment that makes your music player feel alive?

LG WING (2024)

LG WING (2024)

What do you do with a phone that swivels, has a motorized camera, and screams innovation? You make it transparent, obviously. I replaced the back panel of my LG Wing with frosted glass, turning it into a tech lover's dream — watching the internals at work is oddly mesmerizing.

The GPS? It wasn’t a fan of my tinkering. So, I hacked together a custom PCB antenna under the hood to bring it back to life. Now, it’s not just a nostalgic showpiece; it’s a GPS-savvy marvel with a backstory.

Xbox One S (2023)

Xbox One S (2023)

What do you get when nostalgia meets Minecraft obsession? A gold-dipped Xbox One S with glowing creeper eyes, of course. I turned my first console into a tribute to blocky adventures: a custom-painted controller with adjustable triggers and a 3D-printed Xbox button, paired with a console featuring a creeper face on top and LED eyes powered by an ESP32-C3 web server.

The LEDs? They’re mood lighting for your Xbox, shifting with its status—because why settle for boring when you can have your console give you the creeper stare?

Apple iSight 2003 (2024)

Apple iSight 2003 (2024)

Apple’s iSight Camera from 2003 is a design legend—aluminum, glass, and timeless simplicity. Modern webcams? Forget it. I swapped its FireWire guts for USB-C and initially considered an ESP32 with an SPI camera, but the quality didn’t do it justice.

Instead, I used a compact 4K webcam, keeping the original LED and shutter. Closing the shutter now cuts power, making apps throw an error—a fun workaround for privacy. The result? A modernized iSight that’s as stunning as it was 20 years ago. I just love it!

Google Stadia Dev Kit (2023)

Google Stadia Dev Kit (2023)

When Stadia went poof in 2023, I snagged a rare Stadia Developer Kit—a Lenovo P520 in disguise. It came with Debian 9 and a AMD Radeon Pro V320 GPU that didn’t want to play nice with Windows. The solution? A little VBIOS magic to make it all work.

Now it’s a fully functional Windows PC, though its original apps are just digital fossils of a gaming service gone too soon. Was it challenging? Not really. Fun? Absolutely. How many people can say they turned a piece of streaming history into a desktop powerhouse?

Steam Deck (2022-2023)

Steam Deck (2022-2023)

What’s better than a Steam Deck? One you can see through. In April 2023, I swapped its original body for a transparent shell — showcasing all the internals. But disaster struck: a rogue LED fried part of the PCB. Instead of giving up, I designed a custom PCB to track voltage signals and added fading flux LEDs to the front, perfectly visible through the new shell.

It wasn’t the hardest project, but it was a lot of fun. Sometimes life forces you to tweak and improvise, and that’s where the real creativity happens.
